No One Will Save You is a Hulu original horror movie starring Kaitlyn Dever as she tries to survive a home invasion by something not from this world. This movie does something unique and only has two lines of dialogue, coming in a dream sequence. No One Will Save You starts off incredibly strong but, in my opinion, loses some steam as it goes along.
For a film with almost no words, the opening really does a great job setting up the backstory for our lead Brynn. She lives alone by choice and is plagued by the trauma of the death of a friend and her mom. We come to learn more details about it later but up until this point, I thought the movie did well at foreshadowing the emotional themes. Once we got to the home invasion scene, I was thoroughly enjoying myself.
That bit of the movie was very well executed. The tension was excruciating. I am a sucker for using footsteps to create a scary atmosphere and this scene was so good. However, I did not really like the alien design and they are constantly on screen. They looked very stereotypical and with how the story goes, I think they could’ve been more creative. But even then they still had a creepiness to them that made it chilling to see them so often.
After that scene, I thought the foreshadowing became a bit more heavy-handed. At this point, it was fine though because the reveal of why she has so many pictures of her friend was pretty traumatic. The invasion scenes weren’t as memorable after the first but at this point, we already knew that there were aliens around, but I do like that the settings made Brynn defend herself instead of trying to hide.
The ending feels like a marathon of Brynn’s physical and emotional well-being, and it translated very well.
As the title suggests, isolation is No One Will Save You‘s main theme. The decision to have almost no dialogue was great to enforce this. Brynn has become a social outcast due to her past so it makes sense that she would not have anyone to talk to, or as the title suggests, no one will go and save her.
Brynn does her best to not seem lonely, focusing on her work as a seamstress and building her model town, but there is always that lingering feeling of loneliness as she avoids contact with everyone around her.
FINAL THOUGHTS
Kaitlyn Dever gives a phenomenal performance here. She is able to carry this story with no words. The movie is incredibly tense all the way through, and the morally ambiguous ending left me feeling uneasy, which I welcome. No One Will Save You is a solid, thrilling find that I am sure I will watch again now that we’re entering spooky season.
