It’s A Wonderful Knife is a Christmas slasher comedy that follows a girl who stops a masked killer, but ends up in an alternate universe where she never did. In a spin on the classic It’s A Wonderful Life from 1946, our lead Winnie discovers the true impact of her heroic actions.
This movie is pretty fun at times but is all together pretty average, I had a hard time caring for the lead character Winnie because I felt like her motivation was pretty lackadaisical. After she stops a masked killer from killing more people, she discovers that people around her are more willing to move on from the past than she is. In that realization, she wishes she had never been born, which is granted by the universe.
The cast was a lot more loaded than I would’ve thought. Joel McHale, Justin Long, and Katharine Isabelle are all playing significant characters and their experience helps make the movie flow better. The younger cast was pretty hit-or-miss and unfortunately leans more on the forgettable side.
The action in this movie was also pretty mediocre. A lot of chase scenes that felt lifeless and the kills and gore were just alright. The movie felt like it was more worried about getting the kills in than making them memorable or at least looking interesting.
FINAL THOUGHTS
I can tell that It’s A Wonderful Knife was made with a lot of respect for the horror genre, but I was not really impressed by what I saw. The plot was weird, even when you buy into it. The action was alright and a lot of the cast is forgettable. Justin Long is having fun which at least made me feel a bit better about this movie, but it’s not one I plan on rewatching.
