The nominations for the 2025 Golden Globes has been revealed, with quite a few surprises.
“Emilia Perez”, the crime musical about a drug cartel, scored 10 total nominations, the most of any of the films nominated this year. The incredibly divisive film seems to have won over enough voting members of the Golden Globes to get nominations in various major categories including “Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy”, “Best Motion Picture – Non-English Language”, and “Best Performance By A Female Actor in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy” for the performance of Karla Sofía Gascón.
In addition to “Emilia Perez”, other films scored major nominations this morning. “The Brutalist”, the sweeping epic American saga from director Brady Corbet about a post-WWII immigrant coming to America, nabbed 7 nominations, including ones for Corbet’s directing and the acting performances of Adrien Brody, Felicity Jones and Guy Pierce. “Conclave”, which is Edward Berger’s follow up to the acclaimed “All Quiet on the Western Front”, recieved 6 nominations. The film, starring Ralph Fiennes as a cardinal working to select a new Pope in the Catholic Church, has made waves for it’s entertaining and intriguing premise as a religious political thriller.
Perhaps one of the bigger surprises of the year is Dreamworks’ “The Wild Robot”, which not only received a nomination for “Best Animated Feature”, but also for “Biggest Box Office Achievement”. “The Substance”, another surprise in the horror genre, also scored huge nominations in acting, directing and for “Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy”.
But potentially the biggest winner of the season is “Wicked”, which has taken the world by storm since it released in November. Now, it’s scored nominations across the board, notably with both Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande receiving acting nominations.
