Everything You Need To Know About The Overwatch 2 Season 7 Update ‘Rise of Darkness’

Season 7 of Overwatch 2 begins on October 10th and here is everything that comes with the update. This Halloween themed season brings a new Blizzard crossover game mode, a new control map, and the Halloween Terror 2023 event. Alongside these additions comes balancing updates, such as a rework to Sombra and changes to Route 66.

Fight Together to Defeat Lilith Moira

In Trials of Sanctuary, you will fight with your allies in co-op survival against the Burning Hells. This Diablo crossover will feature the heroes of Sombra, Zarya, Illari, Lifeweaver, Reinhart, and Pharah, all with new skins to fit the game mode. Expect to encounter different bosses as you battle for survival, including Azmodan Wrecking Ball, Butcher Roadhog, and Lilith Moira.

Halloween Terror Returns

From October 10 to November 1, game modes Junkenstein’s Revenge and Wrath of the Bride will return to Overwatch 2. With this comes new challenges to level up your battle pass, earn Overwatch Credits, and obtain new skins and other cosmetics for your Heroes.

Destination: Samoa

With the launch of the new season comes a brand-new Control Map. Watch out for the lava pits and pitfalls as you battle it out on beach-side villages and a volcano. Experience the map starting in Quick Play and Unranked while it will appear in Competitive later in the season.

It’s a Balancing Act

This season will bring a ton of new balance changes for heroes like Mei, Zarya, and Orisa. The most notable updates will be the reworks for Sombra and Roadhog. While the changes to Roadhog are still underwraps, we have all the news for Sombra. Sombra will be getting a new ability, replacing Opportunist, called Virus. This ability is a projectile that will deal damage over time and being hacked will increase the rate that you take damage. Sombra’s Stealth has been made a passive ability that will activate when outside of combat, taking or dealing damage. Sombra will also be receiving tuning to her gun, Hack, and EMP. Other changes coming to Overwatch 2 this update can be viewed here.

Cruising Down Route 66

In Season 7 the Escort map Route 66 is getting some changes to help protect those trying to leave attacker spawn. More cover will be provided around the rail cars just outside of the diner. The door just past the first checkpoint will now no longer close all the way to allow attackers quicker access to the payload from respawning. Not all changes are in favor of the attackers though. At the final checkpoint there will be less clutter, allowing the defending team more opportunities to stop the attacking team.

Battle it Out for the Battle Pass

Just like every season, Overwatch 2’s Season 7 update will include a battle pass. Season 7’s battle pass will feature a variety of spooky cosmetics for your Heroes. From the Crimson Clown Soldier: 76 to the legendary Diesel Barron Ramattra. At the end of the journey, you will find the Mythic Onryō Hanzo skin. The Ultimate Battle Pass comes with the Lilith Moira skin, Inarius Pharah skin, and a special Pumpkin-Spice Bastion.

Don’t Forget!

Before you go, due to issues with the Anniversary challenges, everyone will be provided with a free 3,000 Overwatch Credits. All you have to do is login between October 10 and October 16. With these fresh credits, you can spend them on anything in the shop or on Hero cosmetics. Also, with the launch of Season 7 you will finally be able to purchase Heroes that have released in Overwatch 2. This will only be available for one week.
