Everything New Announced At Minecraft Live 2023

Mojang’s annual live stream to talk all things Minecraft has arrived. From the next major update to other games and media, here’s a full breakdown of the stream.

Minecraft 1.21

Trials

The biggest new feature coming with 1.21 is a new structure called the Trial Chambers. These procedurally generated structures will provide players with new challenges and even more loot. Some items that can be found within these chambers are new spawners, blocks, and even a new mini boss.

The new Trial Spawners are different than your typical spawner found in dungeons and mineshafts. They will only spawn a specific number of mobs then go on a cool down. How do you know you’ve completed the trial? Loot will pop out the spawner and smoke will emit from the top.

Once the cooldown is complete, you can go right back to fighting. Alongside the new spawners is a mini boss, the Breeze. Similar to a Blaze, this mob will shoot air projectiles at you instead of fireballs. While these projectiles will not injure you, they will knock you around and possibly into some hidden traps.

New Blocks

You may notice in your journey through the Trial Chambers that it’s made up of copper and a few new types of blocks. Copper will be receiving the usual variants that other blocks have such as trapdoors, panes, and even a new light source called the copper bulb. Not only is copper getting new ways to use it, tuff will also be getting some updates with the chiseled and brick variants.

A New Way to Craft in Minecraft

Minecraft 1.21 will be bringing one of the most game changing features, the crafter. This new utility block will automate all of your crafting needs. With a unique UI you can select which slots in the 3×3 grid you want to be used for whatever item you need crafted. All you have to do is insert the items to craft and the finished block will pop right out. You could also connect hoppers and dispensers to automate the process even further.

Mob Vote!

This year, like recent years, there was three new mobs to vote on as a community to be added to Minecraft. During the week leading up to Minecraft Live, Mojang released teasers for the mobs that we were going to be voting on. Our choices this year were the Crab, Armadillo, and the Penguin. You can see all the mob videos here.

All the mobs had features that could prove quite useful in while playing, but the community decided one was better than the others. This year’s mob vote winner was the Armadillo. In Minecraft 1.21 you may come across this new creature in the savannah biome. You don’t want to startle it though as it will curl up into a ball. The main feature of the armadillo is to craft a new type of armor. Using the scutes that it will drop, you can now provide your pet wolves with the protection they deserve.

That’s Not All

While that’s everything that was revealed to us about 1.21 at Minecraft Live, there is more to come. Just like last year, more features will be shown throughout the development of the update all the way to release. Speaking of release. When will the update come out? There is no set date yet, but it’s expected sometime in the middle of 2024.

Minecraft Legends

Minecraft Legends is receiving another update! When to update launches expect to be battling piglins while riding the new frog mount that swims and jumps higher than others. You’ll also be able to destroy the piglin strongholds with a new ally, the witch. The player isn’t the only one with new upgrades though. The piglins have developed a new structure called the air chopper. This building will use strong gusts of wind to push back your forces. The piglins will also be gaining a new ally themselves. The loud clanger will be joining their ranks. You won’t have to wait too long to experience these new features as the update is expected to release later this year.

Star Wars

The newest DLC announced at Minecraft Live to hit Minecraft will come in the form of Star Wars. The DLC will start you as a padawan and take you through missions and planets as you rise to Jedi Knight. You’ll be able to create your own lightsaber and droid companion. Travel to different planets and battle monsters in a galaxy far, far away while you fine tune your skills as a Jedi. The DLC will land in the Minecraft Marketplace on November 7.

Looking Ahead

There’s some time to go until the next major update releases. In the meantime Mojang will put out snapshots that will let you test the new features throughout development. This is where your feedback comes in. Notice any bugs? Report them here. Subscribe to Pressplay above to be in the know on everything Minecraft as news comes out.
