All the hype around Dragon’s Dogma 2 has come to a screeching halt. Leading up to the games release, there has been nothing but praise. Once the steam page went live, players begun to notice an issue. This issue came in the form of microtransactions. The paid content includes fast travel points and character customization.
These microtransactions have surprised players and leaving a very bad impression. The total cost of all DLC comes to a whopping $42. This is on top of it being a $70 game. $80 if you purchased the Deluxe Edition. Players began to storm the steam page with negative reviews causing the game to go from “positive” to “mixed”.
The problems don’t stop there either. Performance issue have also been reported on the PC port. These vary from high CPU usage and framerate drops due to poor optimization. The biggest cause of the issues has been NPCs in larger cities. Players have resorted to going on murder sprees and killing most if not all NPC’s.
CAPCOM has given a statement addressing all the issues plaguing Dragon’s Dogma 2. They discussed they are working on fixes to the framerate and bugs. They also made note that all the DLC can be earned in game. Meaning that you can completely ignore the paid items. You can view the full statement here.
Even with all the issues, Dragon’s Dogma 2 is still a great sequel to the first. Currently the Steam reviews don’t reflect the quality of the game itself. On Metacritic the game holds an average rating of 87% with critics praising its exploration and improvements in character customization, combat and scale over the first game.
